Mac Perry was born and raised in Virginia where in 1969 he received a bachelor's degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Virginia Tech. That year, he and his wife Faye came to Pinellas County, Florida where Mac served as Horticulture Agent under Extension Director Gil Whitton.
In the 1970s, Mac received two additional advanced degrees and opened a landscape nursery in Seminole, Florida. In 1981, relying on his extensive background in diagnosing lawn and shrub problems, he founded Mac Perry's Lawn-Guard, Inc. a lawn and ornamental pest control company. Over the years, Mac has treated over 150,000 lawns in Pinellas County for insects and diseases that harm people, plants, and pets. During that time Mac wrote 1000 garden columns for local papers, published 30 magazine articles, had his own "Plant Problems" radio show, and wrote eight books including: Mac Perry's Florida Lawn and Garden Care, Landscaping in Florida: A Photo Idea Book, Landscape Your Florida Home, and The Gro-Box Method that has fed fresh vegetables to thousands in undeveloped countries.
Dubbed "The Renaissance Man" by those who know him, Mac is an exceptional artist, a prolific writer, a musician proficient on several instruments, an expert on prehistoric Indians of Florida and is frequently seen on the lecture circuit talking about his favorite subject, "What's Wrong with This Plant." Mac and Faye live in St. Petersburg where they have two grown boys and three grandchildren
